UN Women Strategic Note Launch in Pakistan
The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN) has launched its Strategic Note (SN) to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Pakistan. The launch event was held to inform all stakeholders and partners of its strategic priorities for the period 2023-2027.
Country Representative’s Welcome Address
Country Representative, UN Women Pakistan, Sharmeela Rassool welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the UN Women Strategic Note. The note consists of 5 output areas contributing to the outcome of advancing gender equality and women empowerment. The focus of UN Women Pakistan is to position women as change agents in every sector and create an environment for them to become their own solution architects.
Aligned with UNSDCF- 2023-2027
The SN was formulated and developed through an inclusive process and is aligned with the UNSDCF- 2023-2027. It guides UN Women’s work in the country.
Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office Congratulates UN Women
Head of Resident Coordinator’s Office, Mr. Shah Nasir Khan congratulated UN Women on the launch of its Strategic Note. He stated that gender equality and women empowerment is a guiding principle that applies to everything the UN does and expressed his hope that the implementation of the SN will shift power structures and the economic, social, and political systems that perpetuate discrimination.
Honorable Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court’s Keynote Speech
In his keynote speech, Honorable Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court, Dr. Syed Muhammad Ansar, emphasized the importance of women and girls in the development of a country. He commended UN Women and congratulated the team on launching the important plan, which will ensure women and girls live secure and prosperous lives free from violence and benefiting from non-discriminatory legislation.

Thematic Focus of SN Outcome
The thematic focus of the SN outcome aligns with the thematic priorities of UN Women’s Global Strategic Plan and includes normative frameworks, data architectures, innovative gender financing, access to goods, services, and resources, voice, agency, and leadership, and social norm change. The SN structure includes linkages and complementarities across the five outputs, including cross-cutting UN system coordination, resulting in an outcome that is greater than the sum of its parts.

The chairperson, NCSW Ms. Nilofar Bakhtiar, Team leader European Union Mr. Sven Ruesh, Dr. Maha Noor Deputy Ambassador the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Ms. Saadia Khan, Commissioner, SECP, along with the UN Women team also spoke at the launching event.
