OpenAI has launched an iOS app for ChatGPT, which will soon be followed by an Android version. The app, available for free and without ads, offers voice input and has initially limited to U.S. users. It enables users to interact with an AI chatbot, providing a range of functionalities such as asking questions, obtaining advice, finding inspiration, conducting research, and more.
This release could potentially attract users who has dissatisfied with Apple’s Siri and the lack of AI progress within Apple. Additionally, it may impact Google as ChatGPT could become a primary mobile helper, potentially challenging Google’s default search engine status in Safari on iPhones.
The mobile version of ChatGPT synchronizes users’ search history across devices, allowing access to previously searched information via the web interface. The app also integrates with Whisper, OpenAI’s open-source speech recognition system, facilitating voice input.
ChatGPT Plus subscribers will have access to GPT-4’s capabilities within the app, as well as early access to new features and faster response times. The subscription plan, launched in February, costs $20 per month and includes uninterrupted access to ChatGPT, even during peak times.
The app’s rollout will commence in the U.S. and gradually expand to other countries in the upcoming weeks. OpenAI has also teased the imminent arrival of an Android version, adding further anticipation to the release.
