The 8th Pakistan Mega Leather Show (PMLS) recently took place at the Lahore Expo Center and was a success with over 200 exhibitors and a large number of visitors. During the event, Italian footwear machine manufacturers showed a keen interest in technology transfer to Pakistan and established an industry for this purpose. The China-based footwear component manufacturers also invited their Pakistani counterparts to visit China to explore joint venture opportunities.

The Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) offered to link the entire industry with Italian footwear machinery manufacturers for technology transfers in Pakistan. This would be beneficial for both Italian machinery manufacturers and the Pakistani footwear industry. The PFMA also briefed the Italian machine manufacturers about the Special Economic Zones being established for foreign and local investors, with the government offering incentives such as tax holidays. The Italian manufacturers showed interest in establishing their machine manufacturing industry there and the PFMA offered further collaboration with the government in case of investment.

Two technical workshops were also organized for the industry with Italian industry experts, which were attended by designers from top local brands. An international seminar on footwear sustainability and survival was also held and was well attended by small and large industrial players. The delegation from Expo Riva Schuh, Italy, the world’s largest shoe expo, also attended PMLS and visited Pakistani footwear manufacturer’s factories. The delegation signed a MOU with the PFMA, offering a three-year special incentivized package for Pakistani footwear manufacturers to attend shoe expos in Italy and display their products to European buyers.

In the opening, CEO TDAP Zubair Motiwala assured the leather sector of incentivizing exporters to attend international expos and the release of EDF for the research and development of the leather sector in Pakistan. The next PMLS will be held from January 27 to 29 in 2024.
