Oppo Reno12 and Reno12 Pro Launch with Quad-Curved Displays, Sleeker Builds

Tech and Telecom

Oppo is revitalizing its popular Reno line with the introduction of two new models, the Reno12 and Reno12 Pro. These are the first in the series to feature a quad-curved display. Alongside this innovation, they are thinner, lighter, and more robust than their Reno11 predecessors.

Display and Design Enhancements

The Oppo Reno12 boasts a 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. While the resolution remains similar to the previous model, the screen now curves at the top and bottom edges in addition to the sides. A significant upgrade is the addition of Gorilla Glass protection on the front, enhancing display durability.

The Reno12’s mid-frame is made from die-cast aluminum alloy, offering better compression resistance and reducing potential damage from drops. Both new models come with an IP65 water resistance rating, ensuring protection against splashes and light water exposure. The display remains functional even when wet, adding to the device’s practicality.

Dimensions and Weight

Despite these enhancements, the Reno12 is sleek and lightweight. It measures 7.25mm in thickness and weighs 179 grams. In comparison, the Reno11 is 7.6mm thick and weighs 184 grams. The Reno12 Pro is slightly thicker and heavier at 7.55mm and 183 grams. However, it is still slimmer and lighter than the previous Pro model, which was 8.2mm thick and weighed 190 grams.

Battery and Charging

Both Reno12 models feature a 5000mAh battery supporting 80W fast charging. Oppo claims these batteries will retain 95% of their original capacity even after 1,000 charge cycles.

Camera and Processing Power

The Reno12 Pro is equipped with a 50MP main camera using an IMX890 sensor, a 50MP 2x telephoto module, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The standard Reno12 features a smaller 50MP main sensor (LYT600) but retains the same 50MP 2x telephoto and 8MP ultra-wide cameras. Both models have a 50MP front-facing camera.

Processing power varies between the two models. The Reno12 is powered by the Dimensity 8250 chip and comes in configurations of 12GB or 16GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage. The Reno12 Pro uses the Dimensity 9200+ chip, replacing the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and is available in similar RAM and storage configurations. Both models use LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.

AI and Smart Features

Given the focus on AI in 2024, Oppo has integrated smart features into the camera app. These features can correct photos where someone blinked, remove unwanted people from the frame, and help replace backgrounds.

Color Options and Additional Features

The Reno12 is available in Millennium Silver, Soft Peach, and Ebony Black. The Reno12 Pro comes in Silver Fantasy Purple, Champagne Gold, and Ebony Black. Both models feature an in-display optical fingerprint reader, NFC, and an IR blaster, with the Pro model also offering stereo speakers.

Upgraded Design and Functionality

The Oppo Reno12 and Reno12 Pro present significant upgrades in design, durability, and functionality, positioning them as strong contenders in the competitive smartphone market.
