WhatsApp Introduces ‘View Once’ feature for Voice Messages

Tech and Telecom

In a recent announcement, WhatsApp revealed a new feature for its users, expanding on the ‘View Once’ functionality introduced for photos and videos in 2021. The company has now extended this feature to voice messages, allowing users to send messages that will automatically disappear after being listened to.

Perfect for Sensitive Information and Surprises

This new feature is particularly useful for sharing sensitive information, such as credit card details, or planning surprises. Similar to ‘View Once’ photos and videos, these voice messages are labeled with a distinctive “one-time” icon and can only be played once, adding an extra layer of privacy and security to the communication.

End-to-End Encryption for Security

WhatsApp emphasizes that the new ‘View Once’ voice messages are protected with end-to-end encryption by default. This encryption ensures that the content remains secure and private during transmission, aligning with WhatsApp’s commitment to user privacy.

How to Use ‘View Once’ for Voice Messages

To utilize the ‘View Once’ feature for photos, voice messages, and videos that disappear after a single viewing, users need to select ‘View Once’ each time they send such content. Once sent, the sender won’t have the ability to view the content again. Enabling read receipts empowers recipients to ascertain whether they have opened a ‘View Once’ photo, video, or voice message. This additional feature allows users to confirm whether the recipient has accessed the sent content.

Global Rollout in Progress

WhatsApp announced the global rollout of the View Once voice messages feature over the coming days. This means users worldwide will soon have access to this enhanced privacy option for their voice communications.
