The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the well-being of its youngest patients through a series of heartwarming and engaging activities in celebration of World Children’s Day.

Walk and Art Exhibition

The Children’s Day celebrations kicked off on November 20, 2023, with a momentous walk and a vibrant art exhibition at the AKU Sports Centre. Attended by Hospital leadership, faculty, staff, and students from various schools in Karachi, this event set the tone for a celebration focused on joy, learning, and health for children.

Continuing the Festivities

The festivities continued the next day in the Paediatric wards and clinics. AKUH’s children’s ward buzzed with excitement as Dr. Fyezah Jehan and Dr. Ali Faisal Saleem led a special cake-cutting ceremony. Dr. Fyezah Jehan and Dr. Ali Faisal Saleem celebrated with patients in AKUH’s children’s ward, leading a joyous cake-cutting event.

Magic Shows and Creative Activities

Adding to the festive atmosphere, brushes and face paints adorned children’s faces with colorful designs. The magic show, a crowd favorite, added an extra layer of enchantment to the day’s festivities, mesmerizing the young audience with tricks, illusions, and interactive performances.

A Message from Dr. Fyezah Jehan

“Children are the pulse of any nation, and their welfare is a responsibility we all share. I am glad that we can bring them joy through events like these and also reaffirm our dedication to fostering the overall development and happiness of every child under our care,” said Dr. Fyezah Jehan, Chair, the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health.

Symbolizing Unity and Growth

A fun activity included the creation of a handprint tree through painting. Children and staff left colorful handprints on a tree symbolizing unity and community efforts for the future. The paper tree adorned with handprints signifies the collective commitment of children and hospital staff to nurture and grow together.

The radiant smiles on the children’s faces were a testament to the success of these interactive and delightful celebrations. The activities not only brought joy to the young patients but also highlighted the commitment of the hospital in making their stay as pleasant as possible.

Promoting Child Health

AKUH concluded World Children’s Day festivities on November 22, 2023, with stalls at the Community Health Centre focusing on child health. The Hand Hygiene stall educated on the importance of handwashing and preventing infections. Health Food Plate and Dental Hygiene stalls emphasized balanced diets and regular dental care for children’s growth and development.
