Master Changan Motors Ltd (MCML), a joint venture with Changan International, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully exporting the first batch of 14 Oshan X7s to Kenya for onward sale in Kenya and Tanzania markets. This achievement marks Master Changan as the first company to become Pakistan’s volume exporter of technologically advanced SUVs ‘Made in Pakistan.’ This major milestone coincides with the 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and demonstrates the deep economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Exporting the Oshan X7: A Game-Changing Move

The Oshan X7, an SUV that takes the lead as the largest in its segment, has set to the first SUV from Pakistan to  launched in an international market. Making this achievement even more remarkable has the fact that last year, a sample unit has exported to a country in the Oceania region. This export success positions Master Changan as a pioneer and marks the beginning of a new era for Pakistan’s automotive industry.

A Milestone Export Ceremony in Karachi

To commemorate this achievement, an export ceremony has held in Karachi. During the event, Master Changan’s CEO, Mr. Danial Malik, expressed the company’s vision of becoming a part of Changan’s global vehicle supply chain under the ‘Vast Ocean Plan.’ This plan seeks to establish Pakistan as a hub for producing and exporting high-quality vehicles to the world. Kenya and Tanzania are just the beginning, as Master Changan Motors aims to expand its export volumes and make its presence felt in many other countries. The ceremony saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr. Asad Rehman Gilani, Secretary Industries and Production; Mr. Asim Ayaz, General Manager Policy from the Engineering Development Board; Rizwan Bhatti, CEO PIDC; and Asad Altaf, Corporate Head HBL.

Changan Automobile’s ‘Vast Ocean’ Plan

Earlier in the year, on April 18th, Mr. Zhu Huarong, Chairman of Changan Automobile, unveiled the ‘Vast Ocean’ plan at the 2023 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. This strategic plan aims to accelerate Changan’s international expansion and elevate the company to become a world-class brand. The plan involves a substantial investment of US$10 billion in the overseas market, with a strong focus on intelligent low-carbon core technology. Changan aspires to expand its global presence to Europe, America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), targeting entry into 90% of the global markets by 2030. As Changan’s right-hand drive (RHD) manufacturing hub, Master Changan Pakistan plays a pivotal role in realizing Changan’s ‘Vast Ocean’ plan, catering to RHD markets worldwide.

Government Policies and the Future of Auto Exports

The export of ‘Made in Pakistan’ vehicles hinges on the Federal Government’s policies aimed at promoting and incentivizing the automotive industry. The automotive industry in Pakistan has already submitted proposals to support sustainable auto exports. Danial Malik expressed gratitude for the auto export policy 2021-2026 while emphasizing the need for policies that increase local production volumes, leading to improved economies of scale, deeper localization, and enhancing automakers’ global competitiveness.

The Oshan X7: A Technologically Advanced SUV

The Oshan X7 stands out as a technological marvel in the SUV segment. It boasts impressive dimensions, making it the largest SUV in its class. The vehicle achieves an efficient fuel average of 14-15 km per liter through Pakistan’s exclusive 1.5L turbocharged engine, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 8.23 seconds. Beyond its impressive performance, the Oshan X7 dazzles with its contemporary design, luxurious interior, and state-of-the-art features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FW), and the comfort of heated and vented seats. It’s worth noting that the Oshan X7 stands alone in its class, offering a versatile 5/7 seat layout, catering to a wide range of preferences and needs.
