Standard Chartered Launches 5th Cohort of Women in Tech Programme in Pakistan

Standard Chartered, in partnership with INNOVentures Global (Pvt.) Ltd., has announced the launch of the 5th cohort of its Women in Tech (WiT) programme in Pakistan. WiT has a flagship programme of Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, the bank’s global initiative to tackle inequality and promote economic inclusion, specifically designed to address gender disparity in entrepreneurship. The programme provides support to female-led enterprises through capacity building, including business management training and mentoring, facilitated by the bank’s award-winning accelerator programme.

Successful Launch of WiT in Pakistan

The initiative was first introduced in Pakistan in 2019 and has since garnered significant attention from over 1200 female-led enterprises. Among them, 88 female founders have participated in the bank’s accelerator programme. Upon completing the accelerator programme and presenting their final pitches, 26 of these enterprises have received seed funding to further fuel their growth and success.

Standard Chartered’s CEO, Mr. Rehan Shaikh, highlighted the importance of supporting small businesses’ growth and promoting financial inclusion and education, aligning with the government’s agenda. WiT represents Standard Chartered’s commitment to empowering female-led enterprises through technology, breaking down barriers, and creating opportunities for women in Pakistan. Over the past four years, the programme has proven to be an excellent platform for aspiring women entrepreneurs, showcasing its dedication to increasing women’s access to entrepreneurial finance and supporting the development of adolescent girls and women through capacity building. This initiative perfectly encapsulates Standard Chartered’s Futuremakers community strategy, aimed at enabling the next generation to learn, earn, and grow.

Empowering Women through Innovation and Technology

Partnering with INNOVentures Global, the Standard Chartered Women in Tech programme in Pakistan seeks to promote economic and social development through innovation and technology-led entrepreneurship. Global Expansion of the WiT Programme

The WiT Incubators/Accelerators have initially introduced by Standard Chartered Americas in October 2014 as a local community project. Since then, the programme has expanded to thirteen countries, and as of April 2023, it has reached more than 3200 female entrepreneurs worldwide. The remarkable growth of the WiT programme demonstrates Standard Chartered’s commitment to fostering gender equality, economic empowerment, and technological advancement globally.

The launch of the 5th cohort of the Women in Tech programme in Pakistan represents a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and prosperous future for female entrepreneurs in the country.
